Welcome to our website!
We are glad you are here and interested in prevention efforts in our community! We need your help! ASAP began in 1985 as a grass-roots coalition to address adolescent substance use in Rapid City, SD and the surrounding communities. ASAP began on a small scale, relying primarily on community support for its activities, until 1999 when we received a federal Drug Free Communities grant, followed by other funding sources. For more information about current and previous funding, see our Funding page.
Our current funding, through federal Block Grant dollars, will be at risk in 2019, when state PFS funds (a federal grant to the state of SD) come to an end. While PFS funds do not directly support ASAP, when these funds run out, remaining Block Grant funds will need to be distributed to a greater number of coalitions, making up for their loss of PFS money. At its inception, ASAP was able to operate without funding, through community support. We know times have changed, but we are hoping our community will recognize the importance of prevention efforts, and step up to fill in the gaps when the grant funds end.
Please consider volunteering or donating to our cause. For more details on how you can be involved, please see our "Action" tab above.
